Take a stroll and a picnic basket down to Magdalen Bridge Boathouse to enjoy the views of the city along the river. Cambridge is quite well known for punting down the River Cam, but did know you can also take to the water on the River Cherwell in Oxford. This is a great way to spend a few hours whilst enjoying each others company.

There are a few different ways that you can experience punting along the river. You could take a tour on a shared punt as one option. But one of the best options is to hire a boat for the day or for a few hours and take a leisurely trip along the river. If you pack a picnic, you could always find a quieter part of the city to stop, enjoy your food and take in the scenery. Remember to wrap up warm as it can be quite chilly on the water in Winter!

This open green space in the heart of the city is a popular spot to go for a walk and enjoy a picnic. It is a great place to take a break from the city and enjoy some time exploring the meadows amongst the docile cows and walking along the river banks of the Cherwell and Thames. The location is home to the Oxford University college regatta the SomerVIIIs, as well as Shakespeare performances which take place outdoors.

We couldn’t imagine a better place to explore on a cool winters day. It is the perfect place to visit this Valentines.

The best way to view a city is from above! There are a few opportunities across Oxford where you can enjoy the city and its fabulous views from a higher advantage point. The two main towers that the city has is St Mary’s Tower and the Carfax Tower. From the top of these buildings you get a wonderful view of the famous spires across the city.

To climb the St Mary’s Church Tower it costs £5 but access to the church itself is free. This location is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm. Carfax Tower is the remains of St Martins Church which was built in the 13th Century but it was demolished in 1897 to allow for traffic. This tower offers amazing views of the city. Admission to Carfax Tower is only £3.

There is nothing more beautiful than a sunset stroll around the city. As the golden glow from the sun catches the towers and buildings it is an incredible way to enjoy the evening. Be sure to pack a few extra layers as once the sun sets it can get quite chilly this time of year. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to wander around the streets as the sun sets below the horizon.
